My dear W^m Henry
Yours [ o ] f the 1^st & 2^nd Inst have been
received. Van Duzer is in Goshen I have ^had^ 2 conversations
with him & am fully settled in the Opinion that
he intends to give himself no trouble in the
road Case. He says he can do nothing & recommends
to the Judges to Adobt Bradner return and he
will overtook it. The Judges say that Bradner is
insistantly Urging such a return as the comune
does not imbrace the facts and they are
to adopt – that the papers have all been taken from
there and that they are incapable of making
a return to do Justice to the Case. Thus I can
see no other way but to Abandon the defense
I am highly grateful that you have come
to the conclusion to accept my invitation. I
am so on the broad ground that you are of all
persons the one I should no ^w^ select. There was A
time when a single Ch^d would have best filled
my eye. The offer was Often made but Oh! Henry
that I am Convinsed that I never can bestow
that Amount on you in as Usefull a way to
yourself and that you that you never will
see a period in your life when you will be
enabled to make the [ tower ] as Usefull to you
and you can leave home as well. I am now
not bound to the 24^th but feel a great desire
to procure the best Ship A pleasant Capt. the
most respectable & seventy-five passengers &c &c
and get off as early as possible On this subject you to will
do well to advise with your freinds in New York
You will notice me from time to time of your
movement untill we meet which I hope will be
as soon as possible I hope to bring my business to a point
soon after the first of May. On the location of your
dear Ma my first wish is to remove her from the cares
and labor of the family not that her resources shall be
adequite to her Merits and lastly that she spend her
time where she can be most happy. And I am confident

she will select Auburn for a large portion of it
The kind invitation expressed in your last and the
affection ^&^ attention she has always received from all our
Western freinds creates a strong bias which she flatters
herself she will have an opportunity to gratify.
