My dear Henry
The same time I
the account of our great loss and
affliction I received a letter from Mr John Thompson

Name:  City:  New York County:   State:  NY Country:  US

which was of course defered untill now
Mr Thompson informs me he is applying for the
office of Notary & Commissioner in that City, and as he
has not the benefit of a personal acquaintance with you
he solicits a letter from me
Mr Thompson previous to his removal to
New York was many years an active businessman
in the Central part of Newburgh
x

Place

Name:  City:  Newburgh County:  Orange State:  NY Country:  US
, was always an active firm
supporter of the cause of the people and general acquaintance
with the principle inhabitants of the county made him
very useful to the cause—While in this County the
Character of Mr Thompson was that of a well qualified
honorable businessman—Since his removal to
the City I have had no acquaintance with him
But as far as my knowledge extends I am free to
say I think the appoint would worthily bestowed
and I sincerely wish I may if consistent take place.
Ever affectionately
