Governor Seward
Dear Sir You wished me to drop
you a line in regard to a County Convention, The result would
be somewhat doubtful, all the Candidates have their friends
although I might be much the strongest upon the first ballot
unless I had a majority of the whole. The friends of the other
Candidates might be induced to unite against me. I know
from what is said, that your friends are prepared to sus-
tain you in any nomination you will make, and my
preference would be, to leave the power where it legitimately
belongs,
The message does Honor to the Governor of the Empire
State, it is referred to with pride and admiration by our
friends, and admitted to be gall and wormwood to the L
Yours Truly
