this morning. Here is a copy of it. I have
sent the letter to Auburn

Saturday June 4th
My dear Jenny,
We have now laid under a
heavy fire from the enemy for three days.
My regiment constituting part of the front
line of the 6th Corps. My boys have done
nobly and laid under the heavy fire of the
enemy, while other regiments on my right and
left have fallen back. The rebel works and
our entrenchments are in sight of each other. It
has rained more or less for the past two days. We
are with tents or shelters, but the boys stand it
well. For myself I was never better in my
life, although I have been wet to skin half
the time. I have made application to have my
regiment transported from the front line, in order
that the boys may get something to eat, so I
presume we shall get a little rest. Don’t
give yourself any uneasiness about me, as
