Saturday May 20th
My dearest Sister
The 12th day has
passed since the hemorrhage
the plugs have been
removed from both wounds
^without bleeding^ which the surgeons con-
sider pretty good proof
that the wounded artery
is closed — God be
praised for his mercy —
I feel there is grounds
for hope of entire recov-
ery — What a cloud
of despondency is lifted
Page 2

from my spirit, you
dear Sister, will know —
Tomorrow I will
commence to write
a more connected
account of affairs
here — I write to-
day hastily for the
mail — Henry
