Dear Henry
Yours of the 29th Ult with
remittance
check to left a note, and of 3d Inst
the Monument, and of the 13th with Fi Fw all
were received yesterday on my return to the City.
Above you have the answer to the first – ex-
cept, that Mowatt wishes me to say that he
is very anxious to have the “statement”.
I herewith send the note received ^paid^ with
the inclosure of the second – The Protest accompa-
nying I deem it unnecessary to send – The statement

ount of your check, which I will remit
the sum to be received from Manning
I obtain it.
In relation to the Monument and the other
particulars about our departed friend
showed me a letter he sends you today, which
I doubt not will be satisfactory to you. Of
the amount of subscriptions which can be raised
here I can form no opinion. I do not know
the men to whom application is to be made.

But if these young men who have the subscription
in hand, I cannot but remark that they are boys
in such a business. The idea of Ike Barkers
ing to Author unattended ^unsupported^ is all wrong – it may
and may not strike him favourably. Ruggles
should have accompanied him.
I will call on the Townsends today, if I
recieve the amount of the execution you will yet
hear from me again tomorrow.
With Tomorrows steam boat I return again
to the Canal.
