Monday evening
Dear sister
I have just received your letter – had
it come yesterday as I expected I would
have sent Willie
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
and let him run the
chance of getting back before the 2nd
My letter was sent by Isaac Sherwood
Birth: 1822 Death: 1882-07-18
Saturday
evening and I supposed would reach you
early Sunday morning – That of to day
being sent in the same way may not
reach you – I hope it will in time –
You had better let Frances
Birth: 1826-12-12 Death: 1909-08-24
come with Henry
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10

still if she can go but once I prefer to
have her go with us to West Point
I have a letter from Augustus
Birth: 1826-10-01 Death: 1876-09-11
– he
has passed his examination and is pron-
ounced "proficient" – so he remains – I
think it best to go as early as the first
of August – I know how very lonely you
would be or I would urge you to send
Frances and let her remain with us
until that time – If Worden
Birth: 1797-03-06 Death: 1856-02-16
is to go
Page 2

East next month can you not both come
with him and remain until we go to
West Point – it will be the cherry season
I have much to do to prepare Clarence
Birth: 1828-10-07 Death: 1897-07-24
for
college and add to the wardrobe of my
own boys
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
– I will not make any
definitive arrangement about the little
girl help until I see you if you
do not take Maria
Unknown
I must do something
for her this Winter though it will not
then be so convenient to employ her by
the day – I have just heard that Sarah
Hills
Birth: 1836 Death: 1913-11-09
has the scarlet fever which would
make me uneasy about Willie were
he to go they were playing together
Saturday – We have been tormented with
painters and carpenters for the last month
and have a prospect of their continuing
some time to come – Clara
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
sends love
Your own sister –
