Washington Dec. 9, 1853.
My Dear Clarence
I send you a letter which
I have received from young Mr Burnet
I have every desire to oblige Mrs
C. Clark
is a guarantor of the mortgage. I
do not see how I could in law
or equity refuse to receive the money
from him and assign the mortgage. It
is bad that this answer should be
given by our Counselors when the
proposition is inhered— so that if Mrs
Clark can find another person willing
to take an assignment she can do so.
When it is inhered Mrs Clark must be
informed as above.
