Dear Seward
I have drawn up and the Trustees now send you
herewith the amendment to the village charter — The law
as it now is appears to have gained the approbation of all —
The wish is that you should pay some little attention
to this bill and bespeak for it the influence of such
members of the House as will aid in getting it through.
If any remonstrances are sent down they will come
from Spencer
Ambrose Spencer or John Canfield Spencer
etc. I wish you would let me know im-
mediately what they are — The Trustees have set forth
in their memoral all the main grounds of ar-
gument in favor of the bill and your own knowl-
edge of our village affairs will suggest to you such
arguments as will be most likely to convince the
Senate — It is the wish that you should advocate
this bill and take measures to bring it into the Senate
and the House.
I wish you would send me any alteration
that is made in the Law abolishing imprisonment for Debt. It does
not appear whether by Sec 33. of the law of 1831 relating to imprison-
ment for debt an affidavit is to be made for an attachment
against a non resident plaintiff, this section is blind and is
not understood here.
