Dear S.
Our friends are determined to run you against George B. Throop

for Supervisor, it is a project set on foot by SHopkins

& Underwood

, I
have said all I could against it but it appears to be settled
that you must have a going in with George — I fear you
will be beat, and if I could defeat the project I would— the
Judge

is as much opposed to your running as he can be, and
so is Capt Warden

but I think you will be put on the course.
It is making more of a Town Meeting than it deserves - I
have represented the unpleasant situation you will be in
in case of defeat, and although I shall do my best to pre-
vent an issue between you & George to the people of this Town
yet if it must come to it, you must abide the issue. I
dare not predict that you will be successful, and it would
look like believing against reason to calculate you would.
George has the grocers influence, and although no
prejudices would arise from that quarter against
you, still I fear that that same feeling which would
give you a majority in this Town for any office you
might be supposed to want will not be operative in
respect to the election for Supervisor —there can be
no doubt of your nomination —I have stopt saying
any thing against it- write me on Receipt of this
& state your views & wishes if you object an answer
may be had in time to prevent a direct colision
with George the result of which will be attempted to be
made the test of your popularity in the County

in opposition to George— I think you would not desire
to run- if you are on we shall press you as hard
as possible and it is not impossible that you may
succede. You can if anyone can.
