My Dear Brother
We were very sorry that we
missed being at home when you was here.
It seemed to be the most convenient time
for me to leave home and I was in hopes
that you we would be able to return by the
first of the week but Mrs Leddil

to visit Florida and I went down prepar-
ed to bring them up, had our calculation
resulted as we could have wished. You
would have met her here, and I doubt not
but you would have went to Morris County

Morris County, they held the largest meeting
on Saturday last ever convened in that
place. They are to hold a State Convention in
Trenton

town, I had thought that Genl D was a
popular man in all parties, but in convers-

igent Whigs I found that but our Sentiment
was held by them, that he was a strict party
man, and a devoted partisan of Martin VanBuren

quite a loss yesterday morning. You remember
a large bay mare he owned. Saturday evening
she was running in the Spring lot. a young
man was shooting at a mark with a ball
and was unfortunate enough to hit and
Killed her, the Ball passing directly through
the upper part of the Heart.
When first discovered it was suspected
to be the result of design, from the wound
the situation she was found in and the time
led to the conclusion, the village was in
arms, indignant at such an outrage but
when the young Man came forward and frank-
ly owned his part in the act, you can well
imagine the relief we felt,--
I expect to meet you at Syracuse
