& myself arrived here yesterday
and are engaged in our negotiation, which will be
substantially successful.
I have just recd your letter
of 6 Sept, and thank you for it. I will write more
at large tomorrow, but now only write to say
that I am satisfied that it will not be necessary
to make any more demonstrations of success force
either by suits, foreclosures or otherwise. We
must take care not to excite. Let me hear
from you & in the meantime, be mild and
forbearing[ . ]
