Dr Pitts delivered your Bust safe
on Saturday evening after he left you – by candlelight,
we did not think so much of it, but the next morning
we were delighted. It is the second one of the kind
I ever was pleased with. It stands on the shelf with the
Portraits of your Ma & myself The D^r was immensely
grattified with a safe delivery of the charge.
He will deliver your Umbrella to you
Doctor Pitts has sanguine hopes of obtaining
his office. He certainly is rising fast in reputation
amongst his political friends in this County.
I still think the appointment would be good
Mr Scuddar Newman of Goshen with
whom I presume you are acquainted called on
me to head a petition for him as a commissioner
of Loans of Surplus revinew. This I refused to do
but signed some distance down. I have long
been acquainted, done business with and know
M^r Newman well. He is one of the most exact
carefull and precise men in all his affairs
I ever knew. He is a man of good Judgement and
I have no doubt will would make a safe good
commissioner if appointed. I have lately been
told another man had been Nominated to the Senate
& cannot interfear.
Mr Daniel Sloan of Bloomingburg to
whom you was intradused at Goshen a
few days since solisets me to say to you that
his son in law Oliver Holden Jr of the City of NY
is an applicant for the office of Measurer Gen.
of that City & C^o. I have not a personal acquain-
tance with Mr Holden but have for years heard
BJS speak highly of him as an honorable
prompt business man and a friend of his
He has been a number of years a Measurer

Mr Daniel E Brown of New Windsor through
a series of public business has sustained himself
with integrity and satisfaction to his imployers
is of honorable and good parentage and
wishes now to obtain the office of a measurer
for the city & C^o of New York
With John E Phillips Esq you are well
acquainted. As Locos leave the Stage
if an appointment worthy his notice
should offer it would gratify me
very much if he could receive an
appointment. He and an immense
family connection are substancial
Whigs
Highly respectable & unexpected
applicants are continually calling
on Mr Grier for oppertunities to sign
his petition. He was not apprised of
his strength in the County. He proposes
going to Albany soon.
The Harrisburgh Nominations meet
with universal approbation & favour
amongst the Whigs & Conservatives
The people are fully satisfied that
that Mr Clay under existing circum-
stances could not be Elected and
that Wm H. Harrison will Unite
more votes and more states than any
other candidate in the Union.
Our presidencial Elections having
always been divided by personal friends
we never had a chance. United to a
man now with energy we have nothing
to fear

The base and dishonest conduct of the
Loco Focos relative to the New Jersey
representatives is the cause of our
being in a minority in Congress
but the Whigs electing a Speaker
and his high standing and character
is a matter of threat Uxeltation for
the people
