Martinsburg Dec 20th
My dearest Jenny
The news from all quarters
continues to brighten and if our successes
continue as they have done for the past
month there is little doubt in my mind
but what the war will be ended before next
spring. Should this be the case I shall be
much better satisfied to end up my military
career with the war, than before it. Since my
return this time I have been much like a
boy antisipating the coming of some holliday
constantly finding my mind reverting to the
thoughts of the time when I can return to my family

to be dearer to me every year. I sometimes feel
as though I wish your time was not necessarily
so much occupied with the children

when I think of our dear little Nelly I cannot
regret the changes that have taken place in the
four and a half years we have lived with

each other really I can hardly realize
all the changes that those four years have
brought about. My little wife the mother
of two children and myself occupying a position
which I should have as soon thought of filling
as going to the moon. I think we can both
afford to stop now for the present at least what
say you little one? Your
Will
