Headquarters F irst Brigade, Third Division,
DEPARTMENT OF WEST VIRGINIA,
Martinsburg, Va., Feb 16 1865
My dear Father
I am deeply mortified on
looking over the list of General Officers
confirmed by the Senate to find that my name
is not among them. I should have inferred
that it had not yet been reached, but I see the
confirmation of a number of appointments made
before & after mine. If my appointment should
not have been acted upon, will you not be
so kind as to speak to Senators Morgan

Name: Henry Wilson Birth: 1812-02-16 Death: 1875-11-22Certainty: Probable

in the matter for me. If it has been rejected
please let me know at once that I may
quit the Service without delay. I accepted
the appointment reluctantly and should have preferred
losing my life in it to the disgrace of
being rejected.
Your Affectionate Son
