surrendered
I would resign and you
see I am as good as

my word. Now that
the war has ended
and I look back over
the past three years I
cannot see any time before
when I could have left
the service and & felt entirely
satisfied. Now I can, and
feel that I have done my
duty towards my country
at least so far as I was
capable, but I can assure
you that there has been
many times before when
I have been on the point
of taking this step which
Page 3
I should have regretted
probably all my life after.
There is however one pleas-
ant remembrance connected
with it all, that you never
allowed yourself to urge me
to resign when every one
else many others said I
was a fool for remaining.
Fortunately I have gone
through and been preserved
in body & limb. I think
rather than have stayd at
home I would have been
willing to have lost a limb
thank God it was not so
however
Yours Will

resignation in with mine.
