Biography: 

Banker, lawyer, and politician. Postmaster of Batavia, NY for 20 years, then member of New York State Assembly in 1828 and Senate from 1831 to 1834. Became New York State Bank Commissioner in 1840 and served until 1843.

Had two daughters with Margaret Brisbane Cary, both named Elizabeth Ann Cary but both the girls died as infants, one in 1823 and then the second in 1824 (one after 1 year the other after 11 days). They had another child, Trummy, who died as a toddler in 1832 when FMS was boarding at the same place as the Carys in Albany. They had a son named Walter Cary, who became a doctor in Buffalo. Biography: 
  • Cary founded the Bank of Genessee, served as Batavia's first treasurer and became a state senator for New York.
  • He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Genesee Co.) in 1828. In 1829, he was among the incorporators of the Bank of Genesee, and was its first President.
  • He was a member of the New York State Senate (8th D.) from 1831 to 1834, sitting in the 54th, 55th, 56th and 57th New York State Legislatures.
  • He was a New York State Bank Commissioner from 1840 to 1843.
