Biography: 
The Gospel Messenger of Episcopal Church 1827, published in Auburn, NY by Dr. John Churchill Rudd. In 1848 he moved the paper to Utica, NY where he died April 15, 1848, age 68 yr 10 mo 21 da. I find where Stephen Ellis entered the school of maternal cousin Rev. John C. Rudd D.D. of Elizabethtown, NY. John, son of Jonathan and Mary (Huntington) Rudd born West Farm May 24, 1779. He was prepared for Yale by Rev. Samuel Note, but because of adverse circumstances prevented from Collegiate course. He was educated a Cong. but it is said that he felt some difficulty ever after early period respecting the distinctive feature of Calvinism and the result of his reading and reflecting was only to establish him in Episcopal system and admitted to Deacon order by Bishop Moore in 1803. To Piests order by the same venerable prelate the year following. After a few months of Missionary labor on Long Island 1806 he took charge of St. John's Parish, Elizabethtown, NY - $800/year plus use of rectory. While there he edited Churchman's Magazine. In 1826 he resigned, voice and health failed, moved to Auburn, NY where he took charge of the Academy. Next year he started Gospel Messenger. In 1822 received honorary degree D.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
