Mary Hayden Pike was an American author born in Eastport, Maine to Elijah Dix Green and Hannah Caflin Hayden. She was educated in Calais, Maine and acquired religious convictions at the early age of twelve when she went through baptism in an icy stream. She graduated from the Charlestown Female Seminary (Massachusetts) in 1843. In 1846 she married Frederick A. Pike who later was elected to the 37th United States Congress. Mary Pike is mentioned in an 1859 letter from Frances to Lazette (18590212FMS_LMW) "Pike & his wife were there, Mrs Piatt of Cincinnati, Miss Dodge, who signs her production Gale Hamilton, & Mr Wood who has recently published the “Scenes in Another World” making Heaven..."
