Biography:
First mentioned in 18370430WHS_BJS1. WHS resold a lot in Portland Harbor (now Barcelona, NY, near Westfield, NY) to a Wm R. Morse. There is a W.R. Morse letter in the microfilm database dated 9/05/1837. Searching for "W.R. Morse," and the aforementioned location(s), I found a newspaper article concerning W.R. Morse & Co. in Westfield, here: http://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/lccn/sn83031732/1856-11-19/ed-1/seq-4.pdf. Further information about W.R. Morse's mercantile business in Westfield can be found at the link in the citation notes. His residence in Westfield is now 1 Washington Street, Westfield, NY 14787 (citation: http://app.chautauquacounty.com/hist_struct/Westfield/1WashingtonStreetWestfield.html). Next, I turned to Find-A-Grave. The only William R. Morse in the Find-A-Grave was William Roswell Morse, born in 1810 (see the death date citation). Using Ancestry, my first hit found a William R. Morse who was listed a merchant in Chautauqua, Westfield, NY in the 1855 census (see the birth date citation).
