Biography:
Born in Schoarie, NY. Graduated from Union college in 1847 and studied law at Binghamton. He was admitted to the bar in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1860, he was elected Attorney General of Wisconsin. He organized a company that became Wisconsin's 2nd Regiment during the Civil War, and then he was appointed colonel. He then served in congress before returning to his law practice.
