Studying medicine at Yale, Jones moved to Oswego in 1826. In 1841 he moved to Baldwinsville in Onondaga county where he continued to practice medicine and also become the Postmaster. He served in the US House of Representatives representing New York from 1851 to 1855. Doct Jones, austin Smith, Chauncy Tucker, Dr Benedict & others grow resolute to have an investigating committee, and some of them strongly disposed to appoint it at the Convention."
