Biography:
Lucas (Luke) Butts was born in England about 1847. He enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War as part of the 9th Regiment, New York Heavy Artillery. He served in Company D with WSJ. He deserted the Army in December of 1864. He married Carrie, and lived in Rochester, Monroe, where he worked as a carpenter, until his death.
