Found in 18380825GMG_WHS1. James Swartwout of Deerpark is elected to the Utica convention. Deerpark is a small town in Orange County. From the History of Orange County we find a James D. Swartwout mentioned, "In 1867 Mr. Clark married Margaret, daughter of James D. Swartwout, of Port Jervis, a direct descendant of Roeloff Swartwout, who came from Holland and settled at Kingston, N. Y., in 1655." and again in the context of fort attacks, "This was on the old George Cuddleback place on the east side
of the Neversink River, about three miles from Port Jervis. Another
fort was near the residence of the late James D. Swartwout."
The Cuddleback mention is important because, searching Find-A-Grave, the only James Swartwout who is buried in Orange County is a James D. (bingo!) who married a Naomi Cuddleback (double bingo!).
Considering that Port Jervis is 8 miles away from Deerpark, I think we've found our man.
