Biography:
  • Edward Lindner was a gunsmith. He invented and patented, in May 1857, a repeating percussion firearm. He possibly held another patent in 1859 for breech loading.
  • In 1863, "Lindner and Stern" stored firearms in Hamburg, which were then seized by Denmark. Eventually the guns were returned with $3000 in cash damages. His partner, "Stern," in the scandal, is yet unknown. Stern may have been incorrectly written for Ezekiel Straw of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company in N.H., which took old Hall model guns and converted them into Lindner models. "Events show that Edward Lindner, Arthur Eastman, and Ezekiel Straw of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, all of Manchester, New Hampshire, knew each other before the end of June 1861. They had established a business relationship whereby Eastman would promote the sale of Lindner's breechloading system, the alteration work to be accomplished by the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company."
  • The government also purchased 501 (possibly 892?) Lindner carbines in 1863, at $20.00 each.
