Biography:
  • Enos Thompson Throop (1784-1874) was an upstate New York lawyer, jurist, and politician who was governor of New York state from 1829-1832. Upon the completion of his term of office, he received appointments as the naval officer for the Port of New York, 1833-1838 and charge d'affaires for the Kingdom of Two Sicilies, 1838-1842. He lived most of his adult life at "Willowbrook," his home near Auburn, except for the years 1847-1857 which he spent at "Springbrook" near Kalamazoo, Michigan.
  • In 1814, he married Evelina Vredenburgh who died in 1834. Although none of their children survived infancy, he had many nieces and nephews, both on his and his wife's side, who corresponded with him.
  • His younger brother was George Bliss Throop (1793-1854).
