Biography
Thaddeus P. Mott was born in the United States. He fought in numerous international military engagements and returned to the United States to fight in the Union army during the American Civil War. He was briefly the U.S. minister to Costa Rica in 1867, but in 1868, he went to Turkey to serve in the Ottoman Army. In 18680916WHS_FWS1, WHS says that "General Mott passed through Malta" on his way to "Constantinople." While in Malta, he sent AWS a "very pretty Maltese silver cross" through the Counsul, Mr. Winthrop.
