Peter Hamilton Myers

Biography
Peter Hamilton Myers was born in Herkimer, New York and came to Auburn with his brother Michael S. Myers, an attorney, in 1826. He studied at Dr. Rudd's School and later attended Wells College. In 1829, he was appointed as a deputy when his brother became Cayuga County Clerk. He studied law and became a partner in his Michael's law office. He practiced law in New York City, Little Falls, NY, and Skaneateles, NY before returning to Auburn in 1871. He had one son, William, and one daughter, Jessie. His wife, whose maiden name was Swain, died in March of 1878. Myers wrote poems and American historical novels, including The First of the Knickerbockers (1848), The Young Patroon; or, Christmas in 1690 (1848), and The King of the Hurons (1850). He was a regular contributor to The Knickerbocker magazine.
