Biography:
Biological son of Samuel H. Colt. Step-father was John Caldwell Colt, the man tried and convicted of murder in 1842. Mother was Caroline Henshaw, who married Samuel overseas in 1838, then later married John Caldwell Colt (brother of Samuel) the morning before John's death. The marriage was thought to be a way to legitimize Sammy's existence; Samuel didn't want to be with Caroline since she wasn't an appropriate wife for a successful businessman. However, after John's death, Samuel cared for his favorite "nephew" very well, and after his own death in 1862, he left the Sammy $2 million.
