In returning from Mayville

I took a slight cold which brought on
a more severe turn of rheumatism than
I suffered in January and have been
confined to a restless bed most of the
time for two days. But I am well
enough now I hope to sit most of
this day in the office, and although
I am entirely too fulle to to do much
myself, I hope to be able to make
a push through the clerks to get
your remaining papers by tomorrow
night.
But I took pen to say that on
recovery, I find there has been a letter
in the house &c hours from Nelson Beards- ley

a request that we give him no
more land.
Another letter from of the the
15th says stocks are rising handsome-
ly – money will be plenty by & by
the offer of N. Biddle

as the day has passed away. The
Lord enabling, I will complete the

This over, I am resolved to
take sundry little jaunts for the ben-
efit of the Jeffersonian & my health.
I feel some delicacy about helping
the Whigs, but certainly can help
the Jeffersonians & may say & do
now what I may not after nomination
day. I think I can do something,
I call on Dr. Benedict
